Garden Calendar for Limassol
Gardening in Limassol follows a different rhythm from northern Europe. The growing seasons are autumn and spring, summer is the time to protect the garden, and winter is for pruning and planting.
This calendar shows the main jobs in each season.

Winter: December to February
- Prune deciduous and fruit trees while they are dormant
- Trim and clean palm trees in the cool weather
- Plant trees, shrubs and hedges
- Turn the irrigation down and rely on the rain
- Remove weeds while they are still small
Spring: March to May
- Prune olive and citrus trees
- Clear weeds and clean plots before they dry out
- Check and repair the irrigation before the heat
- Feed the lawn and start mowing weekly
- Trim hedges and plant summer colour
Summer: June to September
- Water early in the morning and check the system often
- Mow the lawn every week, not too short
- Limit pruning to light trimming
- Watch for pests, which multiply in the heat
- Remove dry weeds and cuttings, which are a fire risk
Autumn: October and November
- Plant: autumn is the best planting season of the year
- Repair or lay lawns while the soil is still warm
- Trim hedges after the summer growth
- Reduce watering as the weather cools
- Clean the garden and clear drains and gutters of leaves before the rain
